Corpus Christi's

1956 Holtkamp organ

"What is so remarkable?  Practically everything that exists in an organ--beauty and variety of tone, direct speech into the auditorium, impeccable blend and balance, superb build-up and all perfectly adapted to the church's acoustics (there is nothing quite like it in New York)."

--Seth Bingham, The Diapason, June 1957

Acclaimed as one of the finest organists of his generation, James David Christie was the first American to win First Prize at the Bruges International Organ Competition.  Distinguished Artist-in-Residence at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, and Professor of Organ at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, he has been Organist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra since 1978.  As soloist and accompanist, he has appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony, the Mainly Mozart Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the London Symphony, and the Bach Ensemble.  Dr. Christie has given over forty concert tours of Europe, having performed this past season in France, Denmark, Italy, Austria, Germany, and the Netherlands.  During the 2005-2006 season he is performing the complete works of Dietrich Buxtehude at College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, and at Harvard University, Cambridge, in observance of the 300th anniversary of the composer's death.  He will repeat the series in several European cities in 2007-2008.
