           THOMAS MERTON'S

         LATIN AMERICAN CONNECTIONS

Rev. Raymond M. Rafferty, pastor of Corpus Christi parish in Manhattan since 1998, was ordained priest of the Archdiocese of New York in 1966.  He has served as pastor to several New York parishes, as well as for the English-speaking Church of Our Savior in The Hague.

     In 2005, on a grant from the Louisville Institute, Father Rafferty spent six weeks studying Merton's love for Latin America and expanding his project, "Thomas Merton and Corpus Christi Church: the Parish of His Religious Birth"; also looking at how Merton's faith led him to the pursuit of peace and justice through his dialogues with his many correspondents.
